Dr. Lee is located East of Cincinnati, Ohio in Anderson Township near Beechmont Mall and directly across from Our Lady of Mercy Hospital - Anderson. Our office is easy to access from I-275. Use either the Five Mile Road or Beechmont Ave. (State Route 32) exits.
Welcome to our Web site and thank you for allowing us to participate in your care. The following information will help to explain your surgery and how our office operates.
Office hours are 9am to 5pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Monday, Dr. Lee is in the operating room at the hospital. He is available for emergencies. On Wednesday, Dr. Lee teaches at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He is a volunteer clinical instructor and fulfills clinic responsibilities as well as seeing his private patients at the UC Medical Arts Building. He has affiliated with the University Surgical Dental Associates.
After office hours, the Doctor can be reached through the office answering service. If you have an emergency, the answering service is in constant touch with the Doctor.
Your first visit will, most likely, be for a consultation with the Doctor. It is important for the Doctor to meet you, review your x-rays and examine you to determine what surgery is necessary and where the surgery can be safely performed.
Most routine oral surgery is done in the office in one of our operating rooms. If for health reasons or because of the complexity of the surgery the procedure needs to be done at the hospital, the Doctor will discuss this with you.
Your second visit will be for the surgical procedure outlined at your consultation. Several different techniques can be employed to accomplish the surgery. Local anesthesia, nitrous oxide, intravenous sedation, and intravenous general anesthesia may be used. Some procedures are best accomplished by certain techniques and with certain drugs. The Doctor will explain the options open to you and give you his recommendations. Patients are encouraged to express their desires as to the anesthetic technique used and the place they wish to have the procedure performed (either in our office or in the hospital).
We are very proud of our office. It is one of the most up to date and well equipped offices of it's type in Cincinnati, Ohio. Both operating rooms are fully equipped. All necessary anesthesia and resuscitative equipment is on hand, and portable emergency equipment is on the premises for patients' safety in the waiting rooms and consultation areas. Two staffed and fully equipped recovery rooms are available for post operative observation. Staffed recovery rooms provide safety for the patient and reassurance for the parents.
Oral surgeons are highly qualified specialists who continued their education at a medical college or dental university. They limit their practice to complex oral surgical procedures, such as jaw fractures, the removal of impacted teeth, reconstructive procedures of the upper and lower jaw, temporomandibular joint reconstructive surgery, the removal of tumors and cysts from the jaw bones, and dental implant reconstruction.
Oral surgeons are unique in that they sometimes combine the practice of dentistry with reconstructive surgery and anesthesia. no other health care provider is more specifically trained as an expert in the mouth and jaws.
Dr. Lee received his degree in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical sciences at Purdue University. He continued to remain active in pharmacy, having served on the American Pharmaceutical Association Liaison Committee with the American Dental Association.
After receiving his degree in Pharmacy, he attended
Indiana University School of Dentistry and later attended and
completed his residency program in oral and maxillofacial surgery
at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. His residency
emphasized training in outpatient general anesthesia as well as
surgical reconstruction of the mouth and jaws. He continues to
associate with the Medical Center as a volunteer instructor on
Wednesdays in the Department of Surgery Division of Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgery. In addition, Dr. Lee is affiliated with
the University Surgical Dental Associates. He maintains a private
practice on Wednesdays at the UC Medical Arts Building. Dr. Lee
has served as president of the Cincinnati Society of Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is a Diplomate of the American Board
of Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons and a Fellow of the American
College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He has participated
as sponsor for two Synergy Implant seminars and trained with over
25 local dentists to perform state of the art dental implant
reconstruction. He is presently serving as President of the
Cincinnati Implant Restorative Society.

Our staff consists of a registered nurse certified in Advance Cardiac Life Support and trained in office intravenous anesthesia. In addition, three highly trained surgical technicians assist Dr. Lee during surgery and staff the recovery rooms after surgery. To insure continuity of care, a coordinator for jaw reconstruction is on staff. Additionally, the staff includes a dental implant coordinator. These areas of oral and maxillofacial surgery are complex and require team work between the restoring dentist and the oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Jaw reconstruction requires orthodontics and our orthognathic surgery coordinator leads a team approach to jaw reconstructive procedures such as these.
A financial coordinator is available for insurance pre-determination and pre-certification. Financial planning is available for dental reconstruction, jaw reconstruction and dental implantology. For your convenience, hospital pre-pay programs have been established with Mercy Hospital Anderson.
The front desk is manned by a friendly, well trained staff knowledgeable in all phases of oral surgery, insurance and office matters. They will be able to answer all of your questions.
All members of the staff are trained in basic life support.
Insurance for oral and maxillofacial surgery can be confusing. Some policies cover our surgery as medical expense, some cover our surgery as dental. Jaw reconstructive surgery, setting of fractured jaws, and removal of tumors are covered as medical expenses. Impacted wisdom teeth are sometimes covered by medical insurance. Dental insurance partially covers the extraction of impacted and erupted teeth along with most other office oral surgical procedures. Newer procedures in implant reconstruction are generally not covered. Many insurance companies cover anesthesia. Some do not.
In recent years managed care has replaced the majority of traditional indemnity insurance contracts. These programs help to reduce the cost of health care. They also reduce access to care and in some cases the quality of care which can be provided by your Doctor. Many managed care contracts limit access to oral and maxillofacial surgeons. Many limit the care provided by oral surgeons and all limit the reimbursement for their services. Reimbursement in some cases dropped to usual, customary, and reasonable fees charged in the late 1970's.
We attempt to participate in as many managed care contracts as possible. We only participate in those managed care contracts that reimburse oral surgical services at a fair rate and allow for reimbursement to compensate for the quality of our facility. Some managed care contracts do not recognize the additional expense of the oral surgeons outpatient surgical facility and do not reimburse at a high enough level to compensate the surgeon for his skills, reimburse at a level to compensate the advanced training of the staff or provide necessary reimbursement for the advanced technology present in this surgical facility. We are doing our part to keep surgical fees as low as possible. By providing this outpatient surgical facility we accomplish better than 90% of our procedures without the expense of a hospital setting. By doing so, we save insurance carriers and patients hundreds of thousands of dollars each year.
